Raise your hand if you're still working from home and using ZOOM more than ever???
I’m going to show you a few of my favorite tips for looking your BEST (and rocking your BRAND) while on-camera!
Here are 6 easy ways to look good on zoom…
1. Face a WINDOW or use a RING LIGHT instead.
Natural light is your friend, and this is the EASIEST (and most cost-effective) way to make you look your best.
But if window lighting isn't available, turn OFF the overhead lighting and invest in a good RING LIGHT instead. Overhead lighting will accentuate shadows under your eyes, but a ring light is to be used at face-level and meant to mimic window lighting. Heads up... the tiny ones won't be effective enough unless you're zooming from your phone, but just head to Amazon and you'll discover LOTS of options to fit your exact need.
3. Raise your camera to eye level or ABOVE.
We've all accidentally captured less-than-flattering selfies from lower angles that make us look like Jaba The Hutt. To avoid this, just raise the camera a bit higher up... even if that means using something like an ECOSTAND or even just stacking a few extra books or boxes on your desk to raise your laptop camera up a bit, or even investing in a "gorillapod" for your phone so you can go hands-free.
4. Dress appropriately.
Yes, you can still rock your favorite leggings or jammie pants, but just make sure your top-half is saying "I'm here to WORK." You might not need a suit jacket in this casual environment, but make sure you look like yourSELF... and bonus points for wearing something that accentuates your branding colors or vibe for a bit of extra brand recognition.
5. De-clutter your background.
I'm not saying that the room you're in needs to be SPOTLESS, but no one wants to see your piles of dirty laundry. And having a BED seen behind you is waaaay too intimate, too. Instead, set yourself up in a space that still shows off the vibe of your BRAND... whether that's a cozy living room, a modern home office, or even a simple wall behind you where you can showcase a few on-brand elements. (pssst... this is my OWN new video wall, featuring a collage of my work.)
6. Ditch the glare.
If you DO have artwork behind you, I strongly suggest ditching the glass frames or acrylics, and using straight-up prints, posters, or canvas instead so there's no glare from the lights and your stuff can be better SEEN. (pssst... my own framed collage prints were purchased from @mixtiles.)
And that's it!
You look maaaahvoulous, darling... now go get your ZOOM on!
